Margaret "Margie" Lynn Gillenwater

September 15, 1955 — November 21, 2023

Tulsa

Margaret “Margie” Lynn Gillenwater enjoyed life from the moment she entered the world on September 15, 1955. She was born to Bert and Kathryn Gillenwater in Sayre, OK. Surrounded by family by her side, she passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 21, 2023, in Tulsa.

She was a 1973 graduate of Coweta High School. She also attended TCC in Tulsa before moving to Ponca City, OK, to work for an oil pipeline company. On weekends she waitressed at a local hangout where she met her life-long friends who she has held dear to her heart throughout her life. Margie moved back to Tulsa in the 90’s and worked for Metlife for over 20 years, retiring recently in 2020.

Margie loved life and spent her spare time enjoying working with many types of crafts.  She personalized many invitations and party favors for family member’s births, birthdays, graduations, parties, etc. The time she spent with her family will be cherished.  Having no children of her own, she doted on her nieces and nephews and a few of her good friend’s children. Countless memories were made at “Aunt Margie’s” house, especially the ice cream and M&M’s for breakfast. Or when driving by an empty parking lot, pulling in and doing donuts. Margie was a rule breaker in a good way and the kids loved her for it. She always wanted to make sure everyone was having a good time and happy, not only the kids but anyone she was with.  She enjoyed sky diving, riding in a hot air balloon, rock concerts (she attended over 100 major concerts) and traveling. And traveling she did.  From the east coast to the west. Enjoying mountains, Florida sunsets, food, fun, basking in the sun, and playing in the ocean. She also visited several countries in Europe. Most of all she cherished her time with her friends, classmates, and family.   To say she was popular would be an understatement.  She will be missed by all.

Margie is preceded in death by her parents Bert and Kathryn Gillenwater, of Coweta, OK and one sister, Diana S. Fletcher of Tulsa, OK. She is survived by 4 siblings, Dennis Gillenwater of Coweta, OK, Juanita Edwards of Broken Arrow, OK, Sharon Reed of Porter, OK, and Carol Parker and husband Robert of Tulsa, OK. She was a proud aunt to 14 nieces and nephews (in-laws were same as blood kin to her), 10 great-nieces and nephews and 5 great-great nieces and nephews, 3 aunts, a host of cousins and her family in heart and forever friends, Karen and Bob, Deb, and LaDonna.

A Celebration to honor Margie will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Stokely Event Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
