Wanda Ruth Donohue

Wanda was born January 22, 1936, to James A. Hart and Eula M. (Carter) Hart in the Alameda community of Midwest-Texas on what is now called the Hart ranch. She was the 8th child of 9 siblings, 6 other brothers and 2 sisters whom she kept near to her throughout her life, with family gatherings and stories from her family childhood days. Wanda attended Gorman Public Schools in Gorman, Texas where she loved sports and home economics. She continued her education at Hendrix Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Hardin-Simmons University, of Abilene Texas. She graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1957, using books only. Also, in 1957 Wanda (a Texas Baptist), married Ronald D. Donohue (a New York Catholic), on February 22nd, and had two children, Ronald E. Donohue and David W. Donohue. After being moved about by the US Airforce, Ron and Wanda settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1965 to raise their family and grow their careers. Wanda found a job at a new hospital in south Tulsa, Saint Francis. There she worked as a RN in several areas, giving care to those in need; later she was offered a new position in a new area Pre-Admission as the Pre-Admission Order Nurse working with doctors for patient care, which she worked until retirement from Saint Francis in 1986. Wanda and Ron found a final place to call home in 1969, in Coweta, OK. There Wanda and Ron raised their 2 boys and continued family gatherings for all to enjoy. Wanda was a true caregiver at heart and combined that with family, and family love. She graciously gave time to making sure the family came first always, but never forgot the family friends, near and far, as well as total strangers. She stated, she enjoyed cooking, even while growing up with 8 siblings. In 1989, Wanda and Ron started a new business in Coweta, OK, called “On The Run”. It was a very successful convenience store built from the ground up. There she owned and worked the store (with family) until she decided to fully retire in March of 1999. During her retirement she spent time with her grandkids and great grandkids, giving care and love to each as much as possible. She maintained the same home and all the warmth, pictures, and memories inside for 54 years. She also spent many hours working on family genealogy and history. It was a passion. Wanda had the most wonderful smile and voice, combined with a heart full of love, character, and trust. Wanda had a personality that was kind, and gracious, and on occasion strong, immovable, yet softly demanding. Through it all Wanda always believed in God and never lost faith. She never gave up nursing. She was always the family nurse, taking care of not only the physical but also the emotional heart felt wounds, sometimes just by being a good listener. Wanda was truly one of God’s Angels on earth. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 9th, 2023. Wanda has now rejoined with and was preceded in passing by her son, David W. Donohue (2005), and her husband of 53 years, Ronald D. Donohue (2010). Wanda is survived by Ronald E. Donohue, Jamie Donohue and granddaughter Katie. And by, granddaughter Jennifer Rahlf, husband Brain Rahlf, great grandchildren Emma and Raquel. And by, granddaughter, Stephanie Walsh, husband Brad Walsh, great grandchildren Addisynn, Beau, Kielynn, Zayne and Lily. Also, with many nieces, nephews, and their generations following them. Wanda’s passing ends a great family that began many years ago in mid-west Texas, but she leaves the next generations to continue building on what was started those many years ago.

Visitation for Wanda will be held from 10:00 am - 8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, OK, with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Services celebrating Wanda's life will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Coweta, OK, with Pastor Steve Lee officiating. Wanda will be laid to rest at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK.
