Virgil Cornelius

Virgil Lee Cornelius, Jr., age 71, of Coweta passed away on Thursday afternoon, October 14, 2010 at his residence in Coweta, OK. He was born on January 10, 1939 in Sallisaw, OK to Virgil and Ina Pearl (Wofford) Cornelius, Sr. Virgil was a loving father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and a great friend to many. He was raised and attended school in Sallisaw, OK. Virgil and Joyce Knipp were married on January 28, 1955 in Sand Springs, OK and she later preceded him in death. In 1960, they moved from Sallisaw to Coweta. Virgil worked as a self-employed auto mechanic for over 40 years. He attended the First Assembly of God Church in Coweta, OK. Virgil enjoyed hunting, fishing and he loved spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones and friends. Virgil is lovingly survived by two sons, Virgil Dewayne Cornelius and wife, Maria, of Broken Arrow, OK and Michael Lee Cornelius of Claremore, OK; two daughters, Phyllis Jewell Lee and husband, Danny, of Broken Arrow, OK and Donna Joyce Zane of Coweta, OK; three brothers, James Cornelius and wife, Verna, of Sand Springs, OK, Leonard Cornelius and wife, Debbie, of Wagoner, OK and Richard Cornelius of Coweta, OK; four sisters, Lucille Blevins of Tulsa, OK, Louise Adra and husband, Tom, of Irving, TX, Melba Allen and husband, Roger, of Coweta, OK and Sandy Stuck and husband, Jeff, of Coweta, OK; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 21 nieces and nephews; special friend, John Zane of Coweta, OK; and other relatives and a host of friends. Virgil was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Cornelius, his parents, Virgil and Ina Cornelius, two brothers, Walter and Freddie Cornelius and one sister, Phyllis Cornelius. Funeral services for Virgil will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 18, 2010 at the First Assembly of God Church in Coweta, OK with Rev. Brody Morris officiating.
