Vetrus Ward

Services celebrating the life of Vetrus Ward will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Brown Family Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, OK with Steve Zaferis officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK. Viewing will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Brown Family Funeral Home. Vetrus Ward, age 95, was a resident of Glenpool Nursing Facility in Glenpool, OK. She was born April 18th, 1923 in Okmulgee, OK and was the daughter of Rain Sterling and Loma Belle (Smith) Tennison. She received her education at Liberty Schools. Vetrus married Harold B. Ward on November 5th, 1943 in Okmulgee, OK and together they raised 5 children. She worked part-time cleaning the Boynton School cafeteria and baby-sat for several parents in Boynton. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Boynton. She loved her what-not's and had collected many throughout the years. She enjoyed working "find-a-word" puzzles and she felt that helped keep her mind sharp. She could remember people's birthdays so well that it was amazing, even most of their ages. She was of strong character and grew up helping work the fields with her parents. They never had much, but they were a happy family. Vetrus is survived by one daughter, Brenda Ward, of Kiefer OK, two sons, Roger Ward of Sand Springs, OK and George Ward of Mounds, OK, one granddaughter, Lana Crain and husband Rotane, four great grandchildren and other relatives. Vetrus was preceded in death by her husband, Harold B. Ward in 1996, her parents, Rain and Loma Tennison, one daughter, Betty Thornbury, one son, Harold Ward, Jr., five brothers, Andrew Tennison, Leeroy Tennison, Gordon Tennison, Thomas Tennison and Garland Tennison and seven sisters, Victoria Holt, Lydia Maxine Nance, Thelma Morgan, Myrtle Tillman, Edith Ward, Eva Tennison and Opal Tennison.
