Vernon Poindexter

Vernon Poindexter, age 56, of Coweta passed from this life on Friday afternoon, December 26, 2008 at his residence surrounded by his loving family members. He was born on April 27, 1952 in Brushy, OK to Clarence and Mae Ruby (Riggs) Poindexter. Vernon attended school at Oakwood and Mounds until the 10th grade. In 1975, he moved from Sallisaw, OK to Coweta, OK. Vernon and Judy Perryman were united in marriage in July of 1975 in Coweta, OK. He worked as a self-employed auto mechanic for 20 years. Vernon enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching football. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, Joseph R. Perryman, 1 brother, and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Judy of the home; 3 sons, Jason L. Perryman of Coweta, OK, Vernon Poindexter, Jr. of Coweta, OK, and Chris E. Poindexter of Broken Arrow, OK; 1 daughter, Amy L. Poindexter of the home; 3 brothers, Elroy Poindexter of Brownwood, TX, Gary Poindexter of Clarksville, OK, and Ronald Poindexter of Wagoner, OK; 4 sisters, Leatha Hammer of Stone Bluff, OK, Linda Thomison of Sanger, TX, Darlene Morin of International Falls, MN, and Marlene Carver of Haskell, OK; 12 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2009 at the Broken Arrow Indian United Methodist Church with Rev. Willie Gilbert and Rev. Belle Harjo officiating. Committal prayers and burial will follow at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta. Arrangements and services are under the direction of Wright Funeral Home, Coweta.
