Verlin Dennis

Verlin G. Dennis, age 72, of Coweta, Oklahoma departed this life on Thursday evening, February 25, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital South in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on June 24, 1937 in Tonganoxie, Kansas to Elbert Walter and Cora Lillian (Hatcher) Dennis. Verlin was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather to his family and a great friend to many. He was raised in Kansas and attended school in Preston, Kansas. Verlin enlisted in the United States Army on June 16, 1956 and was honorably discharged on June 15, 1958. He and Phyllis Flickner were united in marriage on July 21, 1957 in Kingman, Kansas and she preceded him in death on March 24, 1999. He then met Esther Albright and they were united in marriage on November 4, 2000 in Shoals, Indiana. Verlin was the minister at the Coweta Church of God Holiness and has served in the ministry for 43 years. He was also a welder by trade. Verlin was a Prayer Warrior. He enjoyed playing the guitar, doing yard work, gardening, and reading, including the Bible. Verlin is lovingly survived by his wife, Esther of the home; his son, David Dennis of Bowling Green, Missouri; his three daughters, Tammy Kronk and her husband, Kerry, of Fulton, Missouri, Rachel Waggoner of New Bloomfield, Missouri, and Deb Dennis of Henderson, Nevada; one sister, Ann Williams of Great Bend, Kansas; two grandsons, Chris Waggoner and Colton Salmons; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. Verlin was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Phyllis (Flickner) Dennis, one grandson, Aaron Dennis, one brother, Clifton Dennis, and one sister, Dorothy Legg. Local funeral services for Verlin will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the Coweta Church of God Holiness, 28456 E. 151st St. S., Coweta, Oklahoma 74429 with Rev. Kenneth Thompson officiating. Family will greet friends on Monday, March 1, 2010 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home. There will be another funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 450 East A. Ave., Kingman, Kansas 67068 with Rev. Kenneth Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Kingman, Kansas. Family and friends may view the obituary and send condolences to Verlin's family online @ www.wrightfh.net.
