Velma L. Hughes

Velma L. Hughes, age 83, longtime resident of Cleveland, OK passed away on Monday morning, September 7, 2015 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, OK. Velma was born on January 22, 1932 in Coweta, OK to Roy D. and Bessie Jane (Burress) Weaver. She and Clarence C. Hughes were married on July 4, 1947 in Wagoner, OK. Velma worked as a sales clerk for Anthony's Dept. Store in Cleveland, OK for 20 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Assembly of God in Jennings, OK. She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her chickens. Velma was preceded in death by her husband in 2006, her parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister. Velma is lovingly survived by 1 son, Pete Hughes of Cleveland, OK; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends. Graveside services for Velma will be at 10 AM on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Vernon Cemetery with Rev. J.W. Wright of the Assembly of God in Jennings, OK officiating.
