Velma Lee Holmes

Velma Lee Holmes, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 28, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital South in Tulsa, OK. Velma was born on July 8, 1930 to Tom Perry and Iva Ella (Chance) Adney in Coweta, OK. She was a 1949 graduate of Broken Arrow High School. Velma married Onis Holmes on April 1, 1950 in Coweta, OK. She was a devoted homemaker who loved caring for her family and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, canning, cooking and taking care of her family. Velma was preceded in death by an infant son, Onis Keith Holmes, her parents, Tom Perry and Iva Ella Adney, 2 brothers, Perry Adney and wife Pauline and Dale Adney, 2 sisters, Louise Rosser and husband Olen and Ruth Ann Lowe. Velma is lovingly survived by her husband of 65 years, Onis Holmes of the home in Haskell, OK; 1 son, Stanley Holmes and companion Amy Renfro of Princeton, IN; 1 daughter, Vickie Thacker and husband Thomas of Holland, IN; 2 brothers, Robert Adney and wife Stella and Jerry Adney and wife Jackie; 3 sisters, Sue Brown and husband Gary, Darlene Foltz and husband Jim and Teresa Holland and husband Clee; 6 grandchildren, Lisa Splawn and husband Chad, Grant Holmes, Rebecca Allen and husband Michael, Christina Hulsman and husband Ted, Sarah Leinenbach and husband Derek and Cassandra Pease and husband Bradley; 10 great grandchildren, Madison, Shaylin, Kru, Kade, Keaton, Kamryn, Kelsey, Kaiser, Corde and Lane; and numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Viewing will be from 6-8 PM on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at the funeral home. Funeral services celebrating Velma's life will be at 1 PM on Friday, October 2, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, OK with Rev. Thomas Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Broken Arrow, OK. Pallbearers are Ray Holmes, Danny Denton, Wes Withers, Jimmy Holmes, Gary Holmes, Tony Holmes, Ricky Holmes and Donnie Holmes.
