Velma Chrystill Gill

Velma Chrystill Gill, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Stilwell, OK on Friday, September 8, 2023 at the age of 87 years. She was born on February 29, 1936, in Catoosa, OK, to William “Bill” and Thelma (Garrison) Hamilton.

Velma is survived by her children, Dale Gill and wife Leslie of Tahlequah, OK, George Gill of Stilwell, OK, David Gill and partner JoAnn Baker of McCurtain, OK, Kathy McDowell and husband Wayne of Tahlequah, OK, Samuel Gill and partner Kim Locklear of Guthrie, OK, Roy Gill and partner Charlotte of Colorado, and Rachel Gill of Stilwell, OK. She was a proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren and 9 step-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brother, Laverne Hamilton and wife Anna Mae of Pryor, OK, her special great-granddaughter, Y'mani Duncan, her special niece, Carol Jean Dewey, and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Gill, her parents, William "Bill" and Thelma Hamilton, and her daughter, Velma Maldoado.

Velma dedicated her life to her family as a devoted homemaker. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as cooking for her loved ones, hunting for treasures at yard sales, and spending quality time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed shopping and watching her favorite TV shows. Velma was a faithful member of the Keys Church of God in Keys, OK, where she found solace and community. She married the love of her life, Doyle Gill, on June 25, 1955, in Stigler, OK, and they shared a beautiful life together until his passing.

Velma's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and faith. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she touched with her kindness, warmth, and unwavering love. She will be remembered as a beacon of strength and resilience, a loving matriarch, and a cherished friend. Her memory will forever be a guiding light for her family and all who knew her.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, OK. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Old Panther Cemetery in McCurtain, OK, with Pastor Aaron Phillips officiating.
