Vella Mae Luker

Vella Mae (Wasson) Luker, age 92, lifelong Coweta resident went to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday morning, January 18, 2020 at her home in Coweta, OK surrounded by her family. Vella was born December 1, 1927 in Coweta, OK and was the daughter of William Daily and Cora Mae (Meadows) Wasson. She attended school at Red Barn school just west of Coweta until the age of 13 and then attended Coweta schools where she graduated from Coweta High School in 1946. Vella met the love of her life, William Thomas "Bill" Luker and they were married on February 12, 1948 in Coweta. She worked at the First National Bank of Coweta for over 43 years and retired as the bank Vice President. While working at the bank, she was proud of becoming a licensed beautician. After retiring, she went to work at Wal-Mart in Coweta as the phone operator and door greeter for 16 years where she greeted everyone with a friendly smile and an uplifting spirit. Vella was a faithful and lifelong charter member of the First Baptist Church in Coweta. She was a virtuous woman who spoke kindly about everyone. Vella enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, gardening, telling stories, but most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Vella is survived by her son, Thomas Lynn Luker and wife Jayne of Coweta, OK; her daughter, Karen Janell (Luker) Miser and husband Steve of Coweta, OK; 5 grandchildren, Jeff Luker, Tim Miser, Cody Luker, Ashley Lewis and husband Travis, and Drew Luker and wife Amanda; 8 great grandchildren, Hadley, Harper, Graham, Maebel, Liam, Kylah, Finley, and Chase; 2 sister-in-laws, Dainese Wasson and Sue Wasson; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Vella was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas "Bill" Luker; her parents, William Daily and Cora Mae Wasson; and 8 siblings, Emuel Wasson, Mary Dale, Myrthia Wasson, Cleetis Wasson, Cicero Wasson, Sybil Cox, Nelma Higgins, and Darold Wasson. Services celebrating Vella's life will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, OK with Tony Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta. Viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2020 at Brown Family Funeral Home with the family present to receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers are Jeff Luker, Tim Miser, Cody Luker, Drew Luker, Dean Wasson, and Travis Lewis.
