Velda Skinner

Velda (Carr) Skinner, age 78, resident of Dallas, TX (formerly of Coweta, OK) went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday morning, October 26, 2017 in Plano, TX. Velda was born on September 26, 1939 in Coweta, OK to Harold Brady and Laura C. (Bolinger) Carr. She went to elementary and high school in Coweta and graduated from Coweta High School in 1958. She then attended Hughes Beauty Academy in Tulsa, OK where she received her Oklahoma Cosmetology License in the summer of 1959. In the fall of that year, Velda entered Northeastern State University. She moved to Dallas, TX in October of 1963 to enroll in the American Airlines Stewardess College and graduated in late November of 1963. Velda loved being a Stewardess because she was able to travel to most parts of the United States, Canada and Mexico. In the summer of 1965, she fell in love with Dr. William T. Skinner and they were married on January 31, 1966 in her hometown of Coweta, OK. In September of 1978, she entered the Language Therapy training program at Shelton School in Dallas. She loved working with students every day in the areas of reading, handwriting, alphabet and spelling. After the two-year training program, Velda continued to work at the Shelton School until May 1983, where she decided to take up a career in selling real estate. In January 1985, she decided to return to teaching language therapy to students individually at her home. She loved her dogs, singing and traveling. Velda was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William T. Skinner and her parents, Harold Brady and Laura C. Carr. Velda is survived by 1 son, William T. "Bill" Skinner, Jr. and wife, Heather of Dallas, TX; 1 sister, Genevieve Sisney and husband, Carl of Coweta, OK; 1 grandson, William T. "Liam" Skinner, III; 1 nephew, Brent Sisney and wife, Donna; 1 niece, Carla Elrod and husband, Charlie; and other relatives and friends. Viewing will be from 2-3 PM on Sunday, October 29, 2017 and services celebrating Velda's life will be at 2 PM on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, OK with Rev. Brody Morris officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK. Pallbearers are William T. "Bill" Skinner, Jr., William T. "Liam" Skinner, III, Brent Sisney and Charlie Elrod.
