Thelmo Cameron

September 16, 1945 — February 25, 2018

Thelmo Steven Cameron entered heaven on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK after battling a rare form of cancer. He was 72 years old. Steve was born in Tulsa, OK on September 16, 1945 to Thelmo Frank and Leta June (Thomason)
Cameron. His childhood was spent in Sand Springs, OK. He graduated from Charles Page High School in 1963. Steve was active in sports throughout school, especially baseball. His only sibling, Diane, was born in 1950. After graduation, Steve married Patty Hunt in 1964. They had one daughter, Tathia, born in 1967. In 1966, Steve enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He took advantage of his time in Germany to see the countryside and even skied the Austrian Alps. While in Germany Steve volunteered for active duty in Vietnam three times but was never assigned there due to a knee injury. He completed his time in the Army in 1969. Upon returning to Tulsa, Steve began a career with the Tulsa World and Tribune that lasted 24 years. He retired in 1994 due to health reasons. Steve married Peggy Miller in 1973. They had 3 children, Jim, Jessica and Jonathan. He was an avid bowler, golfer and fisherman. He thoroughly enjoyed a day of golf or bass fishing, especially on Table Rock Lake in Missouri. He spent many days there with his father and his close friend Paul Nordstrom. Due to his early retirement, Steve was available to spend time with his children as they grew up. He really enjoyed attending their soccer games, usually being their loudest fan. Steve is survived by his wife, Peggy, of the home, children Tathia Johnson (Matthew), Jim Cameron (Becky), and Jessica Mize, all of Broken Arrow, and Bryan Cameron (Stacy) of Austin, Texas, and Jonathan Cameron (Amy) of Tulsa. Grandchildren Taylor and Ryan Hammons, Megan, Jesse and Bailey Cameron, Colton, Avery and Kiley Mize and Dylan Cameron, great-grandson Dylan Hammons. He is also survived by his aunt, Anne Toppins of Austin, TX and several cousins. He is preceded in death, by his parents, his sister Diane Bevins and his niece Andrea Salbino. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Francis Hospital who went above and beyond in providing excellent care for Steve.
