Thelma Marie Harris, age 81, Broken Arrow resident, went to be with her Lord on Friday morning, August 16, 2024, at the Clarehouse in Tulsa, OK. Thelma was born on November 20, 1942, in Vinita, OK to parents, Grover Cleveland Harrison and Mabel Vicena (Wright) Harrison. She was the baby of her eight siblings: Grover Harrison, Jr, John Harrison, Virginia Graves, Evelyn Harrison, Joyce Secondine, Bill Harrison, Lewis Harrison, and Robert Harrison. Thelma nursed each one of her siblings with care and compassion as they each came upon the last days of their lives.
Thelma was joined in marriage to beloved husband, Edgar Henry Harris, on December 22, 1967. She cherished the journey they shared for 52 years until Edgar passed away in 2020. She loved to travel with Edgar and have memorable experiences. Thelma life was well lived and full of love that will endure for generations.
Thelma's kindness was evident in her professional life. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing science from the University of Oklahoma College of Nursing. Thereafter, she served her community as a public health nurse before embracing the role of a mother and homemaker. In this role, she demonstrated the extent of her care and dedication to her growing family.
Thelma is survived by two sons, Jack Harris, and Blake Harris and wife Joni, all of Broken Arrow; her grandchildren, Amber Harris, Sawyer Harris, and William Harris; and her great granddaughter, Amelia Harris.
Thelma’s parents and siblings met her in loving reunion as she entered the gates of Heaven.
Known for her bright and happy demeanor, Thelma was a pillar of positivity. Her commitment to her faith was exemplified by her active involvement in the First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow, where she also volunteered her time. Thelma’s last four years at Prairie House Assisted Living in Broken Arrow were filled with joyful crafting, forging lasting friendships with fellow residents and staff, including her special friend Shirley.
Services to celebrate Thelma’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Broken Arrow, OK. Thelma will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery in Inola, OK.
