Shirley Jean Jernigan

August 22, 1947 — October 26, 2024

Coweta

Shirley Jean Jernigan, age 77, resident of Coweta, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, OK. She was born on August 22, 1947, in Tulsa, OK to Orville James and Madeline Marie (Cole) Jernigan. Shirley's life was a testament to her unwavering faith, her love for her family, and her dedication to the community around her.

Shirley's early years were spent in Tulsa, OK, before her family moved to California. Her adventurous spirit took her to Greece in the mid-1970s, an experience that enriched her life with stories and memories she would cherish forever. In 1992, Shirley returned to Oklahoma, settling in Muskogee before making her home in Coweta in 2012.

Throughout her life, Shirley was known for her kind heart and engaging personality. She built a career in sales and customer service, where her natural ability to connect with people shone brightly. Shirley's work was more than a job; it was an extension of her generous spirit, as she always went above and beyond to help others.

Shirley's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of Coweta Assembly in Coweta, OK, where she found great joy in Bible studies and fellowship with her church family. Her Bible was her constant companion, a source of strength and comfort that she turned to daily.

Family was the center of Shirley's world, and she poured her love into every moment spent with them. She is survived by her son, Joshua Jernigan and his wife, Kim, of Coweta, OK; her adored grandchildren, Devyn Walker, Logan Jernigan, and Madeline Jernigan; and her nephews, Jeremy and Jason Jernigan. Shirley's presence will be deeply missed by her numerous cousins and other relatives who were blessed to know her.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Orville James and Madeline Marie Jernigan, and her brothers, David Jones and Robert Jernigan.

An avid reader, Shirley's passion for literature was matched only by her love for her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, exploring thrift stores for hidden treasures, and taking daily walks. Shirley's love for the holidays was infectious, with Christmas and Easter holding a special place in her heart.

Shirley's departure from this world leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faith. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her grace and warmth.
