Shirley Maxine Denton, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2024, in Broken Arrow, OK at the age of 82 years. She was born on October 16, 1942, in Coweta, OK to William Andrew and Jessie Laurella (Hoffman) Hall.
Shirley's life was spent in and near the close-knit community of Coweta, never losing her close ties with friends and family. Shirley graduated from Coweta High School in 1960 where she met the love of her life, Doyle “Butch” Denton of Coweta and they married on November 11, 1961. They raised their family in Coweta and their union was blessed with love, laughter, and shared passions until Doyle’s passing in 2002.
Shirley's love for her family was the cornerstone of her existence. She relished the family get-togethers that took place several times a year for the stories and laughter they brought and the memories that they created. Her life was also marked by a deep faith and involvement in her church communities, being a member of the First Baptist Church in Coweta and the Family Christian Center in Broken Arrow.
Her career was as diverse as it was fulfilling, having worked for the Security Bank in Coweta, the Veterans Administration at the Hospitals in Muskogee and Tulsa, and finally for the Bureau of Land Management. Shirley retired at the age of 55. Shirley's retirement allowed her to pursue other interests such as keeping up with friends, love of pets, OSU football, and antique shopping to name a few.
She leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor her legacy: her children, Douglas Lee Denton and wife Dixie of Haslet, TX, and Tina Still and husband Roy of Broken Arrow, OK; her grandchildren, Sarah Spinelli and husband Sal of Haslet, TX, and Seth Denton of Fort Worth, TX. Shirley's memory will also be cherished by her siblings, Joyce Potter of Coweta, OK, Wanda McIntosh and husband Charlie of Coweta, OK, Beverly Steeley and husband RC of Coweta, OK, Paula Fitzgerald and her husband Royce of Collinsville, OK, and Gloria "Jeanie" Crowley and her husband Bill of Tulsa, OK, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Doyle "Butch" Lee Denton; her parents, William Andrew, and Jessie Laurella Hall; and her siblings, Larry Hall, Dwayne Hall, Druchel Hall, and Janice Price.
Shirley's life was a beautiful reflection of her values and the love she had for her family and friends. Her memory will be treasured in the hearts of those who knew her, and her spirit will continue to inspire those she has left behind.
