During 1981, he graduated from Will Rogers High School, Special Education Department. He attended Tulsa Vocational Academy for Special Education. He was a member of Lynn Lane Baptist Church, a church in which his grandparents, Myrtle and John Clarence "J.C." Highfill were founders. Scott loved to write short stories with illustrations on each story page. He wrote about his everyday experiences and super heroes, with himself at times as the central character. He wrote everyday. It was one of his greatest pleasures. He loved video games, animal T.V. programs, dogs and cats. He was well known for his kindness and jokes. Scott was diagnosed with Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy in his early teens. He made great strides throughout his life to overcome the challenges of this disease. On January 8, 2009 Scott noticed a lump on the side of his neck, which was later diagnosed as Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer. It had lodged itself within and around his esophagus and trachea. He was hospitalized on January 15 and surgery followed on January 21. His greatest wish was to return home from the hospital. Scott was released from the hospital the morning of February 6 and passed away peacefully at his home in San Jose, California surrounded by family on the evening of February 7, 2009.
