Scipio Eddie Cowan departed this life on September 7, 2010 at the Clarehouse in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 59 years. He was born on November 12, 1950 in Coweta, Oklahoma to Roscoe Cowan and Grace (Beal) Cowan Mackey. He leaves behind his mother, Grace Mackey to cherish his memories. He was raised in Coweta, Oklahoma and attended Coweta Public Schools. Scipio enlisted in the United States Army on July 29, 1970 and was honorably discharged on March 1, 1972. In 1973, he and Jackie Lea Barnes were married in Coweta, Oklahoma and she later preceded him in death. Scipio worked as a brick mason and a mechanic for many years. His hobbies included working on cars and doing handyman work. He is also survived by his son, Scipio Cowan, Jr. of Minot, North Dakota and his daughter, Arlena Tweh of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In addition he leaves behind three brothers, William N. Atkins of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Roscoe Cowan, Jr. of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Rufus L. Cowan of Coweta, Oklahoma; two sisters, Janice A. Canady of Kansas City, Missouri and Jacqueline Hawkins of Coweta, Oklahoma; two step-brothers, Raymond Mackey, Jr. of Muskogee, Oklahoma and James Mackey of Morris, Oklahoma; four step-sisters, Mary Reese of Kansas City, Missouri, Shelia Barnes of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Linda Trout of Haskell, Oklahoma, and Lavonda Hargraves of Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Also two grandchildren, Mitchel Lee Cowan and Deandre Cowan, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other family, and friends. He is preceded in death by wife, his father, and one son. A Celebration of Life for Scipio Cowan will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Wilson Chapel C.M.E. Church, 21757 E. 141st St. S. Coweta, OK. Rev. Penny McKittrick will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Jackson Grove Cemetery in Coweta, OK.
