Salvador Olivarez

September 11, 1938 — December 21, 2023

Haskell

Salvador Olivarez, a charismatic soul, and beloved family man, passed away peacefully in Haskell, Oklahoma, on Thursday, December 21st, 2023, at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy imprinted with love, laughter, and a zest for life. He was born on September 11th, 1938, in Karnes City, Texas, one of 13 children to parents Orencio and Vidala Olivarez. Salvador was a true son of the Rio Grande Valley, whose early years were rooted in the rich soils of his family's farming and ranching lands.

Love was not just a word but a vivid chapter in Salvador's life story as he devoted 65 years of marriage to the love of his life, Aurora (Morales) Olivarez. They made their start by marrying on September 30, 1958, in Floydata, Texas.  Together, they nurtured a large and loving family, including their daughter Yolanda Pierce; sons, Salvador Jr, Danny, David, Leo, and Luis Olivarez; Their blessings continued with the addition of grandchildren: Jack Daniel, Lucas, Ashley, Christopher Daniel, Lyndsie, Lacie, Jessica, Trent, Alex, David Michael, Miranda, Charity, Zach, Cody, and Joel. Their family flourished with a multitude of great-grandchildren. Salvador's life was enriched by his surviving seven sisters and three brothers, numerous nieces and nephews, and his large extended family residing in Texas. Those waiting to meet his heavenly arrival are his parents, son Salvador Olivarez, Jr. and brothers Adam and Amador.

In his professional life, Salvador's hardworking hands cultivated more than just the land; he grew robust crops such as cotton, soybeans, and peanuts, as well as producing beef cattle near Shamrock, Texas. And yet, in his golden years, he chose the serenity of Haskell, Oklahoma, to retire close to his family circle. Faith played a central role for Salvador, who was a dedicated member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Coweta, OK.

Salvador's vibrant personality shone through his interest in Mexican music, especially accordion-accompanied songs, which often coaxed him onto the dance floor to steal the show. With rugged good looks reminiscent of Clint Eastwood, and he retained his flirty charm well into his advanced age. Known as the "15-minute man," he was always enthusiastic and ready for life's next adventure, embodying a spirit of entrepreneurial wheeling and dealing. A magician with objects, Salvador loved to rummage through flea markets for the next thing to flip.

What truly immortalized Salvador’s spirit was his humor. A great storyteller and comedian, he had a skill for surprising his family with his playful antics, often leaving his teeth in the most unexpected places or producing them from his pocket before a snapshot. His ability to bring joy through laughter will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered by everyone who knew him.

We celebrate a legacy touched by love, humor, and unwavering faith. A man who lived a hardworking life to the fullest, Salvador's memory will dance on in the hearts of his extensive family and the many lives he brightened with his unforgettable personality.
