Sally Jane Maher

September 22, 1926 — October 11, 2022

Broken Arrow

Sally Jane Maher went to be with her Lord and Savior on the morning of October 11, 2022, passing away peacefully in her sleep at Rolling Hills Care Center in Catoosa, Oklahoma.

Sally was the daughter of Rose Elizabeth Getchell and Edward Harold Maher. She was born on September 22, 1926 and grew up in Bozeman, Montana. Sally spent her last year of high school in Coffeyville Kansas, where she graduated, and then went on to Carlton College in Minnesota for a Bachelor's degree. This was followed by a Master's in Music at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she met her husband Arthur Earl Battey. They had three daughters, Louise, Carolyn, and Janet. The family lived in Illinois, Colorado, New Hampshire, and Ohio, until Arthur's untimely death in 1976.

Sally was known for her sense of humor and a ready smile, her remarkable talent on the piano, and for always looking so fashionably well put together. At age 91 Sally agreed to move with her daughter to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, from Great Falls, Montana, a remarkable feat for a 91-year-old! Her willingness to take this on at that time of her life revealed her indomitable spirit and confidence that she could find a new home and friends anywhere she went.

Sally is survived by her three daughters, five grandchildren, Aaron, Amy, Chloe, Jonah, and Tammy, and their spouses, and five great-grandchildren, along with numerous relatives.

A private family service will be held for Sally.
