Ruth Byers

Ruth (Wright) Byers, age 94, of Coweta departed this life on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Coweta Manor Nursing Home. She was born on July 30, 1915 in Coweta, OK to Earl and Agnes (Watson) Wright. Ruth was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother to her family. She attended school in Coweta, OK and graduated from Coweta High School in 1933. She then attended Northeastern State University for two years. Ruth and Fred Lee Byers were married on July 15, 1935 in Arkansas. She worked as a teacher and she was also a homemaker for most of her life. Ruth was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star Organization, and the Coweta Study Club. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, antiquing, and grooming dogs. Ruth is lovingly survived by her daughter, Lucy Dobbins of Coweta, OK; her sister, Florence Martin of Lubbock, TX; four grandchildren, Marty Childress, Brian Childress, Craig Childress, and Greg Byers; seven great grandchildren, Amber Mashburn, Zeke Childress, Melanie Yocham, Kevin Childress, Kelli Naylor, Sara Byers, and Austin Byers; seven great-great grandchildren, Abby Mashburn, Cabe Childress, Zaden Childress, Zoe Childress, Aidan Shieldnight, Kameron Childress, and Drake Naylor; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, one grandson, two sisters, and one brother. Funeral services for Ruth will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 1, 2010 at First United Methodist Church in Coweta, OK with Rev. Ed Rutherford officiating.
