On March 26, 1951 a beautiful baby girl was born to John Henry and Bertha Hines in Batesville, Mississippi, Panola County. They both chose to name her Ruby Jean Hines. She was the first and only child born to this union. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 15 years old and was baptized in Bethlehem Baptist Church in Batesville, Mississippi. Ruby Jean was raised by her mother, Bertha Hines. At the age of 20 years, her mother taught her all the things of life and how to be a wonderful woman and to never depend on anyone and be kind to everyone no matter what. She went to school in Batesville, Mississippi and graduated with honors from Patton Lane High School. Ruby Jean was a very hard worker and took care of herself. She worked at Whirlpool for over 10 years, Zebco for 25 years, Helen Raney's Nursing Home for 6 years, and Coweta Manor Nursing Home for a few years. Ruby met and married the love of her life, Alfred L. Curry in 1983 and they have been married for 31 years. Together there were no children born to this union, but Ruby had one son that she and Alfred raised together as their own, Wendell E. Hines, Ruby's first love and only child. Ruby loved her family and loved being a mother to her son Wendell. Ruby loved her husband more than anything and they were soul mates and best friends. She had an unconditional love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren that no one could ever take away from her. Ruby was commonly known for being creative, and a strong woman who was very smart in math, a very good cook, and a great wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, and great grandmother. Ruby helped raise her grandchildren and other children that weren't her own. She helped them to be good and respectable children and to go to school to get a good education. Ruby has taken care of her mother for 9 years since her mother's health has failed. She was so glad to take care of her mother and there was nothing she wouldn't do for her. She talked to her father everyday and was always happy to talk to him. Ruby leaves behind to mourn her passing, her husband, Alfred L. Curry of Red Bird, Oklahoma; her son, Wendell E. Hines, Sr. of Red Bird, Oklahoma; her mother, Bertha Hines of Red Bird, Oklahoma; her father, John Henry of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; 8 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren with 2 on the way. Ruby Jean went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday evening, October 27, 2019. Ruby was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Shayron Brown on September 5, 2017 and her heart was broken at the loss of her granddaughter. Ruby will be missed by her friends, Wilma Jean, Geneva Goree, Carolyn Herndon, Gene Stokes, and the whole Frist Baptist Church family.
