Roy E. Martin

Roy Edward Martin, age 88, longtime resident of Coweta passed away on Sunday morning, August 24, 2014 in Coweta, OK. He was born on September 7, 1925 in Checotah, OK to Melvin and Sylvia (Borum) Martin. He was a graduate of Checotah High School. Roy was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1942 to 1945. He and Dortha Reynolds were united in marriage on December 24, 1942 in Mangum, OK and she preceded him in death on March 18, 2013. Roy owned and operated Roy's Barber Shop. He was a barber for 50 years until he retried in 1995. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Coweta, the American Legion Post 226 in Coweta and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed camping, traveling and woodworking. Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Dortha Martin, his parents, Melvin and Sylvia Martin and 2 brothers, Emmett Martin and Clarence Martin. Roy is survived by 1 daughter, Barbara "Bobbie" Sanders and husband, Jim, of Coweta, OK; 1 son, Ronnie Martin and wife, Patty, of Coweta, OK; 1 brother, Melvin Martin and wife, Brenda, of Sallisaw, OK; 4 grandchildren, Natalie Sanders, Karen Knapp (Bill), Jennifer Miller (Daniel) and Rusty Martin (Caroline); 10 great grandchildren, Johna, Amanda (Kenneth), Ryan (Cortnie), A.J., Garrett, Bailey, Rusty II, Kristabella, Gage and Megan; 4 great-great grandchildren, Teagan, Londyn, Addison and Annabelle; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Viewing will be from 9 AM - 8 PM on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home with the family greeting friends from 6 - 8 PM. Funeral services celebrating the life of Roy will be at 10 AM on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, OK with Brett Wheeler and Rev. Sam Davis officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta. Pallbearers are Rusty Martin, Ryan Chesser, A.J. Knapp, Garrett Knapp, Daniel Miller, Eddie Reynolds and Frank August. Honorary Pallbearers are Kenneth Girty, Rusty Martin Jr., Gage Lehmann, Bill Knapp, Gene Cates, Coleman Sexton, Dickie Trobaugh and Bill Coday.
