Roy Lee Hannah

On Monday, March 7th, 2022, Roy Lee Hannah of Broken Arrow Oklahoma, passed from this life and entered Heaven’s gates. Roy Lee was born on July 11, 1959 in Greenville, South Carolina to Roy Alec Hannah and Ruby Jean (Ferguson) Hannah. Shortly after his birth, the Hannahs moved back to McCurtain County Oklahoma. Roy Lee attended elementary school at Eagletown, where they lived. Roy became a “Big Brother” to Tony and Kathy while living at the “Uncle Johnny Brummett House”.

The Hannahs moved into town at Broken Bow where Roy Lee spent the majority of his childhood, running around “Snuff Hollow” with all his friends playing football and newspaper tag. Roy Lee was thrust into man-hood near the age of 10 when he was made part of the family ranch operation with his Great Uncle Roy Brummett, father “Little Roy” Hannah, and later his brother Tony. He learned at an early age to run a tractor, and was promoted to “rake man” soon after his uncle Bill left the family farm. During his “off time” Roy enjoyed fishing on the Mountain Fork River, Lick Creek, and Luksuklo Creek. He loved driving around and camping in “the hills.”

Roy Lee attended Broken Bow High School where he played football, a game that he passionately loved. He was an offensive tackle and defensive end, although he wasn’t “big enough” to play defensive end. A teammate once stated, “If Roy hit you, he’d knock sparks out of your butt!” While at Broken Bow High, he was selected to the National Honor Society and was later elected President of the organization. He was also Senior Class President and Yearbook Editor.

Eddie Hamilton hired Roy to work at Wal-Mart upon its opening. Mr. Hamilton told Roy that he, “Didn’t like to hire football boys because when the season starts they usually quit!” He played football and remained at Wal-Mart based on his strict work ethic that impressed the management. While still in high school, he was eventually promoted to the department manager of sporting goods.

Roy Lee graduated as part of the class of 1977 of Broken Bow High School. He was granted a transfer to the Stillwater Wal-Mart where he excelled due to the pride he had in a “hard day’s work”. While in Stillwater, he enrolled at Oklahoma State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in December 1980. During all of his hard work, he met the love of his life, Cheryl Anne Davis, who he married on July 20, 1979.

In the following years, Roy and Cheryl became proud parents to Kimberly Dawn and Matthew Roy Hannah and moved to Broken Arrow, OK. In his children’s youth, Roy enjoyed playing video games with Kim and Matt, coaching them in a variety of sports, and later watching them play and perform in their chosen activities.

Roy’s favorite time, however, was when he became a grandfather, first to Braden, and then to Wyatt, Alec, James, Lexi and Claire. Roy adored his grandchildren. He loved to bake with them and continued his tradition of being at every game and activity that he could possibly be at; they will very much miss the cookie making lessons and having him on the sidelines.

Roy is survived by his wife Cheryl, Kim and Whitt Wyatt (daughter and son-in-law), Matt and Katie Hannah (son and daughter-in-law), grandchildren Braden Hannah, Wyatt Adkins, Alec Hannah, James Wyatt, Lexi Wyatt and Claire Wyatt. He is also survived by his brother Tony Hannah and sister Kathy Barns, as well as a whole host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends who will miss him greatly.
