Roy John Crittenden

Roy John Crittenden, 89, of Stigler, OK, formerly of Coweta, OK, passed on May 7, 2014 while in the presence of family. He was preceded by his son, Roy G. Crittenden of Tulsa, OK and survived by his daughter, M. Geraldine Zyskowski (Geraldine's daughters: Stephanie and Patricia) of Broken Arrow, OK, his son, Jerry Crittenden of Broken Arrow, OK and daughter, Germaine Nally of Tulsa, OK, his grandchildren: Kimberly (Crittenden) Simmons, Shane Crittenden, Kerry (Crittenden) Miller, Jeremy Crittenden, Kacy (Crittenden) Ellsworth, Jeri (Crittenden) Brown, Rebecca Nally, Angela (Nally) Sinnett, Michael Nally, David Farthing and many great grandchildren. Roy J. Crittenden was born in Muskogee County, OK on March 19, 1925. He was a man deeply rooted to Oklahoma and to his family. He loved telling stories about his family history. He had a sharp memory, even in his last moments. He told stories of Jesse James and could show where he used to ride. He taught his grandchildren many valuable lessons; one granddaughter remembers him showing her how to use a gun as a young child, and demonstrated the damage it could do to a person by having her shoot at a watermelon, while other grandchildren remember the fish fry's; fishing on his pond, enjoying their catch of the day after the adults would fry them for dinner. He was the kind of man that made sure his family had enough to eat and enough money in their pocket. His grandsons looked up to him as being of strong character and admired him for his kindness and generosity. Roy Crittenden was a hard worker, a man of his word, and he loved his family. He is dearly missed. No graveside services, however, family members will be present at his resting place of the Bennett Cemetery in Warner, OK at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, 2014.
