Roy Lee Buckner, age 79, resident of Coweta, OK, passed away peacefully at his home in Coweta, OK, on Saturday afternoon, March 22, 2025. He was born on February 2, 1946, in Los Angeles, CA to Taylor and Goldie (Watson) Buckner.
Roy attended school in Grants Pass, OR and Stilwell, OK. He answered the call of duty and proudly served in the United States Army. His time in the military included a tour in Vietnam, and he was honorably discharged as an SP5 on February 2, 1967. Roy's commitment to excellence continued in his civilian life as he embarked on a career at Boeing, where he worked as a structural mechanic until his retirement.
In his personal life, Roy experienced the joy of marriage twice. He first married Della Miller on February 28, 1965. After her passing in 1981, Roy found love again and married Peggy Jo Grant on August 7, 1982. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, a testament to their enduring partnership of 42 years.
Roy's legacy is carried on by his loving wife, Peggy Buckner of Coweta, OK; his six children, Lori Roth of Orlando, FL, Brent Buckner and wife Janice of Henderson, NV, Andrea Jared and husband Adam of Coweta, OK, Charlie Jamison and wife Naomi of Seminole, OK, Brenda Brown and husband Brett of Coweta, OK, and Lynda Martin and husband Dane of Coweta, OK. He was a proud grandfather to 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, who will miss his guidance and warmth. He is also survived by his sister, Zel Beed of Grants Pass, OR, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives who will cherish his memory.
Roy was preceded in death by his first wife, Della Buckner; his parents, Taylor and Goldie Buckner; his granddaughter, Christine Lacey; 10 brothers; and 2 sisters.
A man of faith, Roy was a devoted member of Coweta Baptist Church in Coweta, OK. His love for the Lord was evident in his daily life and in the way he treated others. Roy also had a passion for restoring old cars, collecting guns, and riding motorcycles. These hobbies brought him great joy and provided countless hours of pleasure and a sense of accomplishment.
Roy’s life was a tapestry of service, love, and dedication. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his influence will continue to be felt for generations to come.
Roy's life will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Coweta Baptist Church, located at 28149 E. 131st St. S., Coweta, OK 74429. Brother Jeff Harris and Brother Charlie Jamison will officiate the service. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK.
