Ross Richard McDermitt, age 81, of Coweta passed from this life on Thursday afternoon, April 24, 2008 at his home, surrounded by his loving family members. Ross was born on March 10, 1927 in Sand Springs, OK to Thomas Roland and Vernita Inez (Andrews) McDermitt. He received his education in the Tulsa school system and graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1944. He then attended Oklahoma State University for one year. He received his Doctorate of Science of Metallurgy from Hamilton University. Ross and Margaret Lorraine Cox were united in marriage on October 2, 1949 in Tulsa, OK. Ross was the vice president of production for Trinity Industries. He was also self-employed as an engineering consultant in the steel industry. He was a long time member of the Memorial Drive United Methodist Church in Tulsa, OK where he was in the church choir. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coweta. He was in the Sertoma Club and American Welding Society. His hobbies included fishing and hunting. Survivors include his wife, Margaret, of the home; five daughters, Karen Thompson and her husband, Myke of Coweta, OK, Nita Donnelly and her husband, Dennis, of Coweta, OK, Terri McDermitt and her friend, Don Shackelford of Coweta, OK, Jan Laub and her husband, Keith, of Broken Arrow, OK, and Jill Van Tuyl and her husband, Steve, of Coweta, OK; two brothers, Danny McDermitt and his wife, Keril of Catoosa, OK and Tom McDermitt of Tulsa, OK; one sister, Ellen Brown and her husband, Dick, of Los Calos, California; seven grandchildren, Patti Plunk and her husband, Eddie, Kayse Shrum and her husband, Darren, Angela Bacon and her husband, Bobby, Jason McDermitt and his wife, Jessica, Natalie Clyma and her husband, Donnie, Kellie Van Tuyl, and Rodney Van Tuyl; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one brother, and one grandson. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2008 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Rich Redinger and Rev. Allen Carson officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the direction of Wright Funeral Home, Coweta.
