Robert Louis Thompson

Robert Louis Thompson, age 87, resident of Porter, OK passed away on Friday, August 31, 2018 at his home in Porter, OK. Robert was born on October 23, 1930 to Roy and Della Myrtle (Keeling) Thompson in Searcy County, AR. He was raised in Terlton, OK and the family moved to Cleveland, OK, where he attended Cleveland schools. He married the love of his life, Opal Lee (Mortimer) Thompson on June 8, 1950 in Cleveland, OK and they were blessed with four children, Robert, Debra, Joanna and Becky. Robert began his career working as a roughneck at Brown Drilling Company in Cleveland, OK. He continued with Arapaho Drilling and went to Las Vegas to work for a Nevada test site and then went to work for Getty Oil. Robert was a Drilling Supervisor/Consultant in many international countries in off shore drilling. He also opened and ran Sav-On Auto parts store for several years. He enjoyed leather work, golfing, fishing, gardening, camping and spending time with his family. Robert is survived by 1 son, Robert L. Thompson of Gloster, MS; 3 daughters, Debra D. Thompson-Nelson and husband, Ricky of Meadview, AZ, Joanna L. Jones and husband, CA of Coweta, OK and Becky D. Thompson-Hinojosa and husband, Lee of Kingwood, TX ; 1 sister, Anna Lafern Brown of Cleveland, OK; 3 grandchildren, Angela Lee Phillips and husband, Robbie, Robert E. Hinojosa and wife, Tiffany and Megan E. Hinojosa; 5 great grandchildren, Jacob Andrew Phillips, Ashlynn Paige Phillips, Robbie Dean "Bubba" Phillips Jr., Olivia Hinojosa and Marco Hinojosa; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Opal Lee Thompson, his parents, Roy and Della Myrtle Thompson, 2 sisters, Bernice Bradshaw and Lorene Allen and 1 grandson, Kevin Thompson. A graveside service celebrating Robert's life will be at 2:30 PM on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland, OK.
