Robert L. Self

Robert L. Self, age 89, longtime Broken Arrow resident went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday evening, September 21, 2019 in Tulsa, OK. Robert was born on May 5, 1930 in Broken Arrow, OK and was the son of Simon and Bessie (Hail) Self. He attended school in Bixby and Coweta and graduated from Coweta High School. Robert married the love of his life, Joyce Faye (Francy) Self on December 24, 1947 in Coweta, OK. He worked at Braden Winch in Production Control for 17 years and was also a farmer and rancher for all of his life. He was a member and served on the board of Thomas Community Church in Broken Arrow, OK. Robert served on the US Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency County Committee for several years, the Farmers Coop Board of Directors in Broken Arrow and Coweta for several years, and the Rural Water District 4 Board of Directors for several years. He was also a member of the Wagoner County Cattlemen's Association and an honorary member of the Coweta FFA Chapter. He enjoyed hunting, raising cattle, working on the farm, and spending time with his family. Robert is survived by his wife of 71 years, Joyce Self of Broken Arrow, OK; 3 children, Robert Self, Jr. "Bob" and wife Trudy of Broken Arrow, OK, Jim Self and wife Annetta of Broken Arrow, OK, and Jeanne Graham and husband Keith of Inola, OK; 12 grandchildren, Melody Self, Joe Self, Daniel Self, Kenny Walker (Sheila), Lori Bridgewater (Rob), Alesia Posey (Jeremy), Jerod Self (Amber), Jake Self (Shaylee), Jennifer Tucker (Scott), Jessica Graham, Audra Graham, Sarah Graham; 18 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Bessie Self; 1 daughter, Patricia Rosser; 1 brother, Ralph Self; and 1 sister, Marie Self. A service celebrating Robert's life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Thomas Community Church in Broken Arrow, OK with Pastor Charlie Jamison and Pastor Don Couch officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Broken Arrow, OK. Viewing will be from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Brown Family Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Robert "Bob" Self, Jr., Jim Self, Keith Graham, Jerod Self, Jake Self, and Kenny Walker.
