Robert J. "Bob" Engel passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 24, 2015 at the age of 83 years, 5 months and 7 days. He was born on September 17, 1931 in Hays, Kansas to Alois and Caroline (Befort) Engel. Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He met and married Wilma Jean (Leiker) Engel on October 11, 1954 and they have been inseparable ever since. Bob graduated from Ft. Hays State University and went to work for Amoco before retiring after 35 years. He will be remembered for many things. Bob was a devout Catholic and 50 year member of St. Pius X Church. He was an usher, lector and Eucharistic Minister. Bob loved golfing, tending to his flower and vegetable gardens, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, singing to his grandchildren, and most of all, dancing to polka music with his beloved wife, Wilma. Faith and family meant everything to Bob. His wife Wilma and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to him. Bob was always so happy when spending time at family reunions in Hays, Kansas with his 11 brothers and sisters and their families. There is no one who can sing and rock a baby to sleep better than him. He was an amazing man and will be forever missed. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Wilma; four children, Mary Lawrence and husband Mike of Tulsa; Alan Engel and wife Brenda of Broken Arrow; Anne Klein and husband Dan of Lenexa, KS; Carol Barrow and husband Kurt of Houston, TX; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sister, Jeanie Swift of Hays, KS; sister, Dorothy Bahl of Pleasanton, CA; and brother, Al Engel, Jr. of McPherson, KS;. His parents, 3 sisters and 6 brothers preceded him in death. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2nd at St. Pius X Church and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3rd also at St. Pius X Church with Interment and U.S. Army Military Honors following at Calvary Cemetery in Tulsa, OK. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Bob's name made to Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa, 12620 E. 31st St. Tulsa, Oklahoma 74146.
