Richard Lee Stephenson

Richard Lee Stephenson, age 59, of Broken Arrow, OK was born at home in Clarence, Missouri to Juanita (Saunders) Stephenson Cockrum and Richard Glenn Stephenson on August 20, 1954. He married Deborah Kay Copenhaver on May 12, 1973. Together they raised two wonderful sons: David Ray and Tony Ellis. Richard went to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 14th, 2014 at 1:55 in the afternoon at St. Francis Heart Center in Tulsa, OK. Richard was blessed with many talents such as mechanic, carpenter, electrician, plumber, gardener, truck driver and most of all husband and dad. He was a mechanic and truck driver for the City of Broken Arrow for 20 years, also a truck driver for Becco Contractors and Alliance Trucking. He was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, OK. Survivors include his wife, Debbie Stephenson of the home in Broken Arrow, OK; 2 sons, David Stephenson & wife, Jan, of Porter, OK and Tony Stephenson & wife, Dana, of Porter, OK; 4 grandchildren, Kirstein Stephenson, Megan Barham & husband, Chance, Haylee Stephenson and Cole Stephenson. Siblings include, Ronnie Stephenson & wife, O'Dell, of Columbia, MO, Jimmie Stephenson & wife, Sandy, of Macon, MO, Susan Dugan & husband, David, of West Plains, MO, Lori Preston & husband, John, of Valparaiso, NE, Karl Cockrum & wife, Rebecca, of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, Michael Cockrum of Clarence, MO, Carol Cockrum Bennett of Channahon, IL and Linda Cockrum (Pipes) Griffin of Macon, MO and many cousins and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Richard G. Stephenson and Juanita L. (Saunders) Stephenson Cockrum and a nephew, Jimmie Lynn Stephenson II. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, April 16th, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services for Richard are scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday, April 17th, 2014 at Sunnyside Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, OK with Rev. Roland Whitehurst officiating. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 am Saturday, April 19th, 2014 at Maplewood Cemetery in Clarence, MO with Ron Curtis officiating. Pallbearers are Larry Powell, Sam Keel, Curtis Secrest, Robbie Forehand, Ron Curtis, Jim Schmadeke, Kenny Latimer, Jimmy Stephenson, Greg Copenhaver, Cole Stephenson, Tony Stephenson and David Stephenson. Honorary Pallbearers are Ray Robertson and Kurt Gariss. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Mr. Stephenson to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org.
