Richard L. "Duke" Murray of Coweta, OK, age 70, a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle, passed away Tuesday morning, December 31, 2013 at ManorCare Health Services in Tulsa, OK. Duke was born on April 23, 1943 in Wagoner County, OK and was the son of Andrew and Lillian (Baker) Murray. He and Doris Willhite were united in marriage on December 21, 1978 in Wagoner, OK. Duke worked as a self-employed welder for over 40 years until he retired in 1991. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and doing leather work. Duke is survived by his wife of 35 years, Doris Murray of the home in Coweta, OK; three daughters, Amy Asbill & husband, Gerald, of Chouteau, OK, Cheryl Murray of Coweta, OK and Elaine McAfee of Coweta, OK; three sons, Tommy Murray of Coweta, OK, Jimmy Hand & wife, Carol, of Pottsville, AR and Gary Hand of Coweta, OK; one brother, Sam Murray & wife, Sookie, of Coweta, OK; one half-sister, Francis James of Webbers Falls, OK; 18 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Duke was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Richard Leon, two brothers and a half-brother. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, January 3, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am Saturday, January 4, 2014 at New Home Free Will Baptist Church in Coweta, OK with Rev. Audi Abel officiating. Interment will follow at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK. Pallbearers are Jimmy David Hand, Michael Hand, Tyler Asbill, Jacob Asbill, Brandon Wagoner and Kiefer McAfee.
