Raymond William Griffin, Jr., age 82, of Coweta passed this life on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at Saint Francis Hospital South in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Raymond was born on October 1, 1925 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to Raymond William and Nella Bell (Morgan) Griffin. He received his education at Washington High School in West Los Angeles, California. He also attended Compton Junior College for two years, majoring in Liberal Arts. On September 30, 1943, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and was honorably discharged on April 1, 1946. He and Betty Jorgensen were united in marriage in 1948 and they later divorced. Then he and Candice D. Olson were united in marriage on December 31, 1976 in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2003, he and Candice came to the Coweta area from California. Raymond worked as a glazer for Giroux Glass until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #339 in Brea, California. Raymond enjoyed spending time with his family. Raymond is survived by his wife, Candice of the home; four sons, Christopher B. Griffin of Kentucky, William S. Griffin of Oklahoma, Benjamin J. Griffin of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Johnathan B. Griffin of Coweta, Oklahoma; two daughters, Linda R. Purcell of Utah and Judy L. Horner; one brother, Verl D. Griffin of California; one sister, Rhema J. Myers of California; one step sister, Cleaette Smith of California; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Graveside services with full military honors were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
