Phyllis Evelyn (Friend) Denton, age 82, passed away at her home in Coweta, OK, on Thursday, September 19, 2024. She was born on September 10, 1942, in Rabbit Trap, AR to Howard J.C. and Neoma G. (Pruett) Friend. Phyllis's life was a tapestry of devotion to her family, a passion for creativity, and a legacy of warmth that touched everyone she knew.
Phyllis attended Coweta Public Schools and graduated from Coweta High School in 1960. Her education laid the foundation for the wisdom and nurturing spirit she would carry throughout her life. Phyllis was a devoted homemaker, a role she cherished and in which she excelled, creating a home filled with love.
On September 16, 1961, Phyllis married her soulmate, John Winford "JW" Denton, at the First Baptist Church in Coweta. Their union was a testament to enduring love and partnership, setting a beautiful example for their family. Together, they navigated life's joys and challenges until JW's passing on April 21, 2024.
Phyllis's life was characterized by her unwavering dedication to her family. She is survived by her two daughters, Kelly Stockman (Randall) of Coweta, OK and Lisa Denton of Coweta, OK; four grandchildren, Brandon Ullrich (Lacey), Dustin Ullrich (Sarah), Blake Denton (Nellie), and Bailee McDonald; five great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Mia, Ace, Logan, and Lillian Ullrich; and her brother, Roger Friend (Le Ann) of Haskell, OK.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Winford "JW" Denton, and her parents, Howard J.C. and Neoma G. Friend.
Phyllis's interests and talents were as diverse as they were rich. She was an accomplished artist, expressing her creativity through painting. Her skills as a seamstress and quilter brought beauty and comfort to many. Phyllis's competitive spirit shone brightly in her love for bowling, bunco, bridge, and volleyball. She was a proud member of a bowling league for many years, where her infectious enthusiasm and team spirit were well known.
Above all, Phyllis cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, nurturing them with the same love and attention she had given her own daughters. Her family was her life, and she instilled in them the values of kindness, resilience, and the importance of togetherness.
Phyllis's life was a beautiful portrait of love, dedication, and the joy of family. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her in return.
Visitation for Phyllis will be held from 12:00 - 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, OK with the family present to receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. A service celebrating Phyllis's life will take place at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, OK. Phyllis will be laid to rest at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK, where she will be joined once again with her husband, JW.
