Peggy Joan Brown

Peggy Joan Brown, age 84, resident of Lawton, OK went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday afternoon, February 11, 2018 at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton, OK. She was born on March 6, 1933 in Sterling, OK to Claud Sr. and Edna (Pannell) Word. Peggy married the love of her life, Emmett Brown in July 1945 and had 4 children, Johnny, JoAnn, Jerry and James. They were married for 25 years before Emmett passed in December 1970. She was a stay at home mom for many years. After Emmett passed, she worked for JC Penney's, Reeves Electric, Sheridan Bank and then the Museum of the Great Plains. Peggy enjoyed working where she met many people throughout the years. She was a member of the 8th and Lee Church of Christ. She loved to crochet, create craft items and enjoyed selling them at craft shows. She also enjoyed playing cards and dominos. Peggy was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She loved to watch them on TV and would get upset if the game was not where she could watch it. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Brown, 1 son, Johnny Brown and 2 sisters, Melvina Kelly and Betty Harvey. Peggy is survived by 3 children, JoAnn "Jody" Billings and husband Lonnie Sr. of Lawton, OK, Jerry Brown and wife Anita of Lawton, OK and James Brown and wife Judy of Coweta, OK; 1 daughter-in-law, Nona Brown of Lawton, OK; 2 brothers, Claude Word and wife Yvonne of Virginia and Tommy Brewer and wife Robin of Washington; 11 grandchildren, Chad Tate, Steven Tate and wife Jennie, Brandon Brown and wife Michelle, LB Billings and wife Christina, Courtney Johnson, Jeremiah Brown and wife Paige, Justin Brown and wife Nicole, Logan Brown and wife Maranda and Amanda Smith and husband Andrew, Janice Clanton and husband Kevin and Mark Billings; 23 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Viewing will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home in Lawton, OK. Services celebrating Peggy's life will be at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 8th and Lee Church of Christ in Lawton, OK with Steven Patterson officiating.
