Paul Deforest Byrd

September 9, 1933 — October 11, 2016

Paul Byrd passed away on October 11, 2016, at home in the company of his wife of over 20 years and their beloved dogs. Upon completing high school Paul served in the Army. He graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in statistics and economics. Afterwards he worked at OG&E as a budget analyst supervisor for over 30 years until his retirement. Paul was a devout man of prayer, sincere and tenacious. He was an avid Sooner fan and enjoyed walking his dogs almost as much as watching any Sooner event. He was often shy in public situations but to those who knew him he was devoted, possessed a quick-witted sense of humor and had an encyclopedic knowledge of Oklahoma history and geography. He will be remembered for his smile and when he smiled he smiled with his eyes too. Paul was preceded in death by his grandson Justin Davison, a reunion Paul certainly welcomed, and survived by his wife, Patricia Byrd, his daughter, Deborah Worthington, step-children Julia, Penny and Michael Fought, grandsons Christopher and Ryan Davison, Travis and Randolph Fought and granddaughter Parker June Hobbs. He was also survived by his sisters Rhonda Nichols and Willowdean Richardson. A memorial service celebrating Paul's life will be at 2 PM on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, OK with Rev. Marvin Yoder officiating. Family and friends may share memories online at www.brownfamilyfuneralhome.com. The family of Paul Byrd entrusted his service and cremation to Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home, 210 S. Broadway, Coweta, OK 74429, 918-486-5515.
