Ophelia Swartwood

Ophelia Marie Swartwood of Coweta, age 89, a loving and caring mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt, passed away peacefully Monday morning, July 15, 2013 at Franciscan Villa in Broken Arrow, OK. Ophelia was born on July 14, 1924 in Coweta, OK and was the daughter of Oscar Curtis and Ruth May (Bryan) Hughes. Ophelia and John H. Swartwood were united in marriage on December 14, 1941 and he preceded her in death in 1979. She and her husband owned and operated Swartwood Propane for several years. Ophelia was also a homemaker for most of her life. Ophelia was a member of the First Christian Church in Coweta. She enjoyed mowing the yard, gardening, cooking and taking care of her family. Ophelia is survived by her 2 daughters, Sharon Austin and husband, Tommy, of Broken Arrow, OK and Marsha Meece of Coweta, OK; 5 brothers, Jim Hughes of The Woodlands, TX, Paul Hughes of Tulsa, OK, Kenneth Hughes and wife, Wanda, of Coweta, OK, Bryan Hughes and wife, Peggy, of Coweta, OK and Dennis Hughes and wife, Kay, of Coweta, OK; 1 sister, Barbara Hobbs and husband, Donald, of Coweta, OK; 4 grandchildren, Darryl Swartwood and wife, Sherry, Leslee Austin, Owen Swartwood and wife, Shannon and Daniel Swartwood; 2 great grandchildren, Savannah Swartwood and Eli Swartwood; 1 daughter-in-law, Carolyn Swartwood of Coweta, OK; 1 brother-in-law, Norman Swartwood and wife, Bettie, of Arkansas; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ophelia was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Swartwood, her parents, 2 sons, Jerry Swartwood and Randall Swartwood and 1 grandson, Brandon Swartwood. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, July 17, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday, July 18, 2013 at the First Christian Church in Coweta, OK with Rev. Ed Rutherford officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta. Pallbearers are Darryl Swartwood, Owen Swartwood, Daniel Swartwood, Matthew Hughes, Michael Hughes and Mark Jewell.
