Opal Fayreen Murdock, age 90, longtime Coweta resident passed away peacefully Monday evening, January 27, 2020 at her home in Coweta, OK surrounded by her family. Opal was born September 21, 1929 in Wagoner, OK and was the daughter of John and Mary (Eaton) Culp. She was a graduate of Wagoner High School. Opal married the love of her life, Joseph A. "Joe" Murdock on December 9, 1953 in Van Buren, AR and they were blessed with one son, Douglas. She was a devoted homemaker who loved taking care of her family. Opal was the matriarch of the family and she lived for them. She loved having a house full of people. Opal enjoyed collecting miniature figurines, Precious Moments figurines, and she loved her Christmas village. Everyone that knew Opal loved her. Opal is survived by her son, Douglas Shelton and wife Ruth of Broken Arrow, OK; four grandchildren, Steven Ray Murdock of Coweta, OK, Joseph Shelton Murdock of Coweta, OK, Jonathan Jacobs and wife Brandi of Wagoner, OK, and Jesse Jacobs and wife Regina of Tulsa, OK; seven great grandchildren, Trina Gurnsey and husband Matt, Morgan Murdock, Zachary Murdock, Madison Murdock, Kyla Jacobs, Anakin Jacobs, and Raymond Gerard; two great-great grandchildren, Jaelyn Gurnsey and Harley Gurnsey; and numerous other relatives and friends. Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. "Joe" Murdock in 2013; her parents, John and Mary Culp; and six siblings. Services celebrating Opal's life will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Brown Family Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, OK with Rev. Brody Morris officiating. Visitation will be before the service from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK.
