Neoma Friend

Neoma G. Friend, age 89, long-time resident of Coweta went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at her son's residence in Haskell, OK. She was a loving and caring mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt to her family. Neoma was born on March 4, 1921 in Bald Hill, OK to John and Laura (Tudor) Pruett. She received her education in Stilwell, OK. Neoma married Howard J.C. Friend on August 16, 1941 at the age of 21 in Pryor, OK and he preceded her in death in 1988. They lived in Oklahoma, Indiana and California, but most of their years were spent in Coweta, OK. She worked for Tan Sander's Grocery Store for many years before moving to Stilwell and taking over Friend's Grocery in 1975. While in Stilwell running the store and gas station her grandchildren, Kelly and Lisa Denton spent summers with them at the store. She attended the Light House Tabernacle and most recently the First Free Will Baptist Church in Coweta. Neoma loved being with her family, fishing, quilting, gardening and watching wrestling. She and Howard Spent many hours in the garden and they went on many fishing trips. Neoma is lovingly survived by her daughter, Phyllis Denton and her husband, J.W., of Coweta, OK; her son, Roger Friend and his wife, LeAnn, of Haskell, OK; her sister, Ruby Christy of Stilwell, OK; 5 grandchildren, Lisa Denton-Adney, Kelly Denton, Aaron Friend, Rachel Cordova and Cassie Fuller; 7 great grandchildren, Brandon Ullrich, Dustin Ullrich, Blake McDonald, Bailee McDonald, Kayah Jones, Emma Jarrell and Josie Cox; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Neoma was preceded in death by her husband, Howard J.C. Friend, her parents, John and Laura Pruett, one sister and five brothers. Funeral services for Neoma will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 11, 2011 at Wright Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta with Pastor Greg Meadows officiating.
