Nellie Smith

July 9, 1933 — March 17, 2017

Nellie Mae Smith, warmly remembered as "Granny", was born on July 9, 1933 in Cloverdale, Alabama. She was the daughter of the late Cloverine Smith and the late Benny A. L. Harden. Nellie Mae was called home to be with the Lord on March 17, 2017. Nellie Mae was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother to all of us. She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Rock Primitive Baptist Church, and later a member of New Birth Ministries in Florence, Alabama. She raised her family in the small town of Florence, Alabama. She was a single mother to 4 strong and beautiful ladies. She was a hardworking woman who was committed to taking care of her family and the well-being of her children and grandchildren. Our childhood will forever be filled with playful and warm memories of 303 N. Locust Street.  The many flowers that surrounded the house, her garden, the chi-chi she made, the cool whip pies, and those whoopins we got when we got into stuff. Back in her hay day, she was in a ladies club called "The Socialettes." They would sometimes get together and have fish fry's or mini socials that were filled with good food, drinks, lively music and an abundance of laughter. Those left to cherish Nellie's memory are her children, Methylia A. Smith-Fesojaiye, Glylia N. Ingram, Sabrina L. Weaver and Tracy L. Jackson; son-in-law, Michael Weaver; grandchildren, Deona Smith, Senna Smith, Fonta Smith, Latoi Smith, Ivo Smith, Michael Sheppard, Alicia Sheppard, Zarcarro Smith, Adonous Smith, Antonio Carter Jr., Nikki Jackson, Kiana Weaver and Ashley Ellis; and a host of great grandkids, great-great grandkids, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and acquaintances abroad. A homegoing celebration for Nellie will be held at 1 PM on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, OK. Viewing will be from 4-8 PM on Thursday, March 23, 2017. Interment will be in Haskell Cemetery in Haskell, OK. Family and friends may share memories online at www.brownfamilyfuneralhome.com. The family of Nellie Mae Smith entrusted her care and services to Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home, 210 S. Broadway, Coweta, OK 74429, 918-486-5515.
