Myra Beverly Apsey

January 30, 1944 — May 26, 2020

Broken Arrow

Myra Beverly (Stearn) Apsey was known by several names – Nurse, Cruiser, Dog lover, Teacher, Wife, Mother, Grandmother.  She left this life peacefully in her sleep on May 26, 2020 at the age of 76 at her home in Broken Arrow.  She was born on her mother’s birthday, on January 30, 1944, which was fitting as the only daughter to Flora B. Stearn in Boston, Massachusetts.  As a teenager she was friends with Annette Funicello and spent time in California with Annette & the gang as an honorary Mouseketeer.  She attended an all-girls Latin school followed by Hebrew school 3 days a week graduating high school at 17 speaking fluently four languages.

She began work at Beth Israel Hospital and on July 9, 1962 she married Stanley Edward Cook in Newport, Rhode Island.  They were married 15 years and raised Bradley Edward Cook (Manton, MI), Stacey Ellen Cook Coates (Jeffrey Coates, Nazareth, PA), Sharrie Kristen Cook Walters (Robert Walters, Inola, OK), and Shawn Stanley Cook (Julia Haneke Cook, Los Angeles, CA).  She eventually moved to Jackson, Michigan, where she worked for Foote Hospital as a Certified Surgical Technician CST.  She met and married Charles Morgan Apsey, III on May 20, 1979 and spent 41 beautiful years together moving the family to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma in the summer of 1981.

Nursing was always in her veins and she quickly found a job at Saint Francis Hospital as both an Operating room charge nurse and a CST.  She also held the position of a private scrub nurse for a prominent Oral Maxillofacial Surgical Team.  This was not enough, and she eventually went back to school receiving both a BS in nursing, and a Masters in Hospital Administration with a minor in teaching.  Myra’s final professional designation was MS, RN, CNOR.  Her role quickly changed to teaching and she worked for several colleges in the area: Rogers, TCC, OU, OSU, & Langston to name a few, where she designed and created nursing curriculum, lectured, taught both in a classroom setting and in the halls of Tulsa areas hospitals.  Throughout this busy school and work-life she and Chuck found a way to cruise as they piled up over 300 days on the high seas.

Myra loved the Word of God and especially cherished teaching and sharing with everyone.  She never pushed anything upon you and had a way to always provoke thought.  Her charisma and passion just seemed to be able to keep you interested.  If you had a question, be assured she had within her reach a Bible or the good ole PDR (Physicians Reference).  She also was known for her conspiracy theories and once on her soap box could chat for hours.

Myra is survived by her husband Charles Apsey, four children, two stepchildren, fourteen grandchildren, one great grandchild with another on the way.

A legacy of teaching she leaves to us all and she would want nothing more than each of us educate ourselves and use the wisdom granted to live each moment to the fullest potential as ordained by God himself through grace and granting each other mercy.

She is now home, with a smile on her face as she asks every question imaginable.
