Mildred H. Smith, age 80, of Coweta, Oklahoma passed from this life on Monday, April 14, 2008 at her home. Mildred was born on May 2, 1927 in Harrison, Arkansas to Elgin Harp, Sr. and Pearl (Duncan) Harp. She received her education in the Porum school system. Mildred and Edward Lee (Bill) Smith were united in marriage on August 24, 1945 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. They came to the Coweta, Oklahoma area in 1959 from Porter, Oklahoma. Mildred worked in the cafeteria for St. Francis Hospital for 9 ½ years. She also worked as a custodian for Coweta Public Schools. She enjoyed gardening, going to flea markets, and music. Survivors include two sons, Larry Smith and his wife, Lynn, of Coweta, Oklahoma and Michael Smith and his wife, Nancy, of Glenpool, Oklahoma; three daughters, Sharon McMurray and her husband, Ronnie, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Linda Bratton and her husband, Michael, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Sue Fowler of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two brothers, Homer Harp of Mooringsport, Louisiana and Elgin Harp, Jr. of Coweta, Oklahoma; one sister, Sylvia Brown of Virginia Beach, Virginia; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, two brothers, one granddaughter, and one great grandson. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2008 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dave King of Sperry, Oklahoma officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Wright Funeral Home.
