Mary Beth Rutherford

On Thursday, August 25, 2022, Mary Beth Rutherford a lifelong Coweta resident went to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Mary Beth was born October 17, 1943 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Elzie Lloyd Rutherford Sr. and Mary Ellen (Dunn) Rutherford. She graduated from Coweta High School in 1961. She received her Bachelors Degree in Education from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She also earned her Masters Degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She taught two years in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and 32 years in Coweta, Oklahoma. She retired at the age of 55 and enjoyed her retirement for many, many years. Mary Beth’s world was built around two things, God all Mighty and teaching school.

Mary Beth is survived by one sister, Crete Rutherford of Coweta, Oklahoma; one brother, Ed Rutherford and wife Jan of Allen, Oklahoma; and nephews, Nathanial Scott and wife Pauline and their son, Alexander of Cypress, Texas and Seth Scott and wife Dana and their son, J and daughter, Leona of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  She also leaves behind many cousins and friends.

Mary Beth was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Mary Ellen Rutherford and her grandparents, Alvi and Emma Rutherford and Charles and Lula Dunn.

She will be missed by all who loved and knew her!

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Sunday, August 28, 2022 at Brown Funeral Home in Coweta, Oklahoma. Services celebrating Mary Beth’s life will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 29, 2022 at the Coweta Church of God of Prophecy in Coweta, Oklahoma with Pastor Dustin McDaniel and Rev. Ed Rutherford officiating. Mary Beth will be laid to rest at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, Oklahoma.

Pallbearers are Kirby Brumble, Kraig Withers, Kenny Corley, Tony Holmes, Rob O’Neil, and Matt Roach. Honorary Pallbearers are Scott Brians, Doug Collins, and Frank Hughes.
