Mary Ethel Sampson

February 10, 1941 — September 3, 2024

Coweta

Mary Ethel Sampson, age 83, resident of Coweta, OK, entered into the Gates of Heaven on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the Baptist Village in Owasso, OK. She was born on February 10, 1941, in Tulsa, OK to Ronald Ray and Katherine (Payne) Campbell. Mary's life was a testament to the enduring strength of family, friendship, and devotion to God.

Mary grew up in Tulsa, where she graduated from Central High School in 1959. She married the love of her life, Jerry Bruce Sampson, Sr., on March 26, 1959, in Tulsa, OK. Their union was blessed with love, laughter, and longevity, spanning 64 years until Jerry's passing in July 2023.

Mary spent many years working in banking, first as a teller and then as the President's secretary at Security Bank in Coweta. Later, she joined Crane Carrier Corporation as a payroll clerk, where she remained for 15 years until her retirement.

Her interests and hobbies were a reflection of her caring and nurturing spirit. Mary was an avid gardener, a skilled seamstress, and a passionate teacher of the ladies Bible school class at her church. Her love for reading was surpassed only by her love for God. As a woman of deep faith, Mary was a cherished member of the Broken Arrow Church of Christ in Broken Arrow, OK.

Mary's love for her family was immeasurable. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Thompson and her husband, Daniel of Owasso, OK; seven grandchildren, Katherine Schnell, Andrea Ashley, Rebecca Washington, Joseph Sampson, Josh Sampson, Connor Sampson, and Gracie Douglas; and ten great-grandchildren, Micaiah Schnell, Lydia Schnell, Esther Schnell, Henry Ashley, Peter Ashley, Elaine Washington, WestLee Washington, Jadon Washington, Bruce Sampson, and Benjamin Sampson. She also leaves behind her sister, Julia Youngblood of Bartlett, TN; brother-in-law, ET “Tom” Sampson of Tulsa, OK; sister-in-law, Donna (Sampson) Shorten of Tulsa, OK; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Darrell and Judy Sampson of Coweta, OK, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors, and her church family.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Bruce Sampson, Sr., her parents, Ronald Ray and Katherine Campbell, and her sons, Jerry Bruce Sampson, Jr. and David Wayne Sampson.

Mary’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, service, and faith. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those she touched for generations to come.
