Mary Ann (Smith) Hopkins, Sapulpa resident, born on August 3, 1952, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, bid farewell to this life on Monday, September 25, 2023, while visiting Athens, Greece.
Mary graduated from Bixby High School and paved a path for her family as the first to graduate college at Oklahoma State University Okmulgee, OK. Following her education, Mary exhibited her dedication and precision in the professional world, spending over 30 years in a drafting career. She continued to explore her artistic inclinations post-retirement, spreading joy with her skill in face painting.
A loving mother, Nana, and sister, Mary's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Michelle John, and son-in-law Michael, of Perkins. She was the adoring Nana to Dathan, Zachary, and Riley John, to whom she often expressed, "My sunshine, you make me so happy." She is also survived by her sister Alma Smith, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents Gene Smith and Bobbie (Herring) Smith, brother Eugene Smith, sister Donna Smith, and niece Jana Smith.
Mary demonstrated her love through action. She was a dedicated Christian, who was always quick to give to anyone in need. Anywhere she went she could always strike up a conversation and never knew a stranger. She delighted in attending vendor events with Michelle, enjoying precious girls' days running errands, getting pedicures, and dining out. She made memories cheering on her grandsons at ball games, pig shows, and attending heavy metal concerts to watch Dathan rock out on his guitar. Anything the boys had going, she was all in. She meticulously planned and scheduled family reunions. Her love for her family was also evident during holidays, especially at Christmas, where she reveled in the lights, shopping for gifts, and grocery shopping for family meals and goodies.
Mary Ann Hopkins led a life characterized by a legacy of love and family commitment that continues to inspire those who knew her well. She will be forever remembered as a beacon of love, and her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who loved her.
