Mary JoAnn Flynn, a beacon of love and faith, passed away peacefully at her home in Broken Arrow, OK, on Friday afternoon, November 22, 2024, at the age of 87. She was born on August 15, 1937, in Bartlesville, OK. Mary's life was a testament to the power of devotion, both to her family and to her unwavering faith.
Mary's journey began as the cherished daughter of Walter and Helen Cole. Her early years in Bartlesville were filled with the simple joys of life, which laid the foundation for the incredible woman she would become. In 1956, she married the love of her life, Wayne Luey Flynn, and together they embarked on a 68-year-long adventure, filled with love, laughter, and shared purpose.
Mary's legacy is carried on by her loving husband, Wayne Flynn, and her daughters, Renee Major (Bill) and Roslyn Backus (Harold). She was a proud grandmother to Heather (Jason), Carissa, Jonathan, Christina (Adam), Christopher (Rhonda), and Lauren (Spencer), and a doting great-grandmother to Danielle, Damion, Aubrey, Rosie, Cameron, Emersyn, Elijah, and Emmett. Her life was further enriched by numerous other relatives who will miss her dearly. Mary was greeted in heaven by her parents and her beloved son, Bradley Flynn.
Throughout her life, Mary embraced her role as a devoted homemaker with grace and joy. She instilled in her daughters the arts of cooking, sewing, and ceramics, ensuring that her talents and passions would be passed down through the generations. Mary's heart was always open, and she was a pillar of support for all who knew her. She gave selflessly, always placing the needs of others before her own.
Mary's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She and Wayne led children's evangelism ministries and Bible studies, touching countless lives with their dedication and kindness. Mary's love for the Bible was profound, and she found great joy in sharing its teachings. Her commitment to her faith was unwavering, as she led Bible studies four times a week and on Sundays, nurturing the spiritual growth of many.
An avid lover of nature, Mary found peace and happiness in her garden, surrounded by the flowers she so tenderly cared for. Her ability to listen and provide comfort made her a confidant to many, and her wisdom was a guiding light.
Mary and Wayne's journey together saw them move from Mustang, OK, in 1976, to Florida in 2000, where they continued their ministry work. In 2006, they settled in Broken Arrow, OK, where they made a loving home and continued to impact their community.
The family of Mary JoAnn Flynn takes comfort in knowing that her spirit lives on through the many lives she touched. While there are no services planned, her memory will be cherished and celebrated by all who knew her.
