Mary Blackmon

Mary "Nadine" Blackmon, 90, of Coweta, Oklahoma, formally of Archie, Missouri, died February 22, 2012 at Fort Gibson Nursing Home in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. She was born February 22, 1922 to Earl and Mary Schlotzhauer in Kansas City, Kansas. On May 16, 1947 she married William "Bill" Blackmon of Kansas City, Missouri. Nadine was a piano and organ teacher with the Jenkins Music Studio in Kansas City, Missouri for many years. She was an excellent pianist and enjoyed playing classical music and hymns. She attended the Conservatory of Music in Kansas City, Missouri. She worked with many youth organizations including Girl Scouts and Parent Teacher organizations. Bill and Nadine were long time members of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Harrisonville, Missouri where they taught a children's Sunday School Class. Nadine served as the church organist for many years. They moved their membership to the Coweta First Baptist Church when they moved to Oklahoma in May of 2005. Nadine was a resident of the Carriage Crossing Senior Retirement Center in Coweta, Oklahoma since moving to Coweta in 2005 where she developed many close friendships. She enjoyed being close to family and spending time with her great grandchildren. Nadine is survived by her son, Michael Blackmon and his wife, Ann, of Lee's Summit, Missouri; a daughter, Francie Schauffler and her husband, Marion, of Porter, Oklahoma; three grandsons, Stephen Blackmon of Overland Park, Kansas, Scott Schauffler and his wife, Holly, of Porter, Oklahoma and Barry Schauffler and his wife, Brooks, of Coweta, Oklahoma; a granddaughter, Ginger Blackmon of Lee's Summit, Missouri; one great grandson, Bret Schauffler of Coweta, Oklahoma; four great granddaughters, Mia Schauffler of Porter, Oklahoma, Alexis Schauffler of Coweta, Oklahoma, Madison Reardon of Overland Park, Kansas and Paige Sartain of Lee's Summit, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, a half-sister, and her husband. In lieu of flowers, friends may send donations to the music ministry of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church or the First Baptist Church of Coweta. A memorial service for Nadine will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, Oklahoma with Rev. David Jones officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home, 210 S. Broadway, Coweta, OK 74429, 918-486-5515.
