Marvin Shepherd

Marvin R. Shepherd, age 90, of Pryor, Oklahoma passed from this life on Wednesday, March 25, 2008 at Veterans Hospital in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Marvin was born on February 22, 1918 in Aurora, Kansas to Ray S. and Lula Blanche (Elliott) Shepherd. He received his education in the Concordia, Kansas school system and graduated from Concordia High School. He joined the United States Army on August 13, 1943 and was honorably discharged on December 30, 1945. Marvin and Frankie C. Hughes were united in marriage on October 30, 1952 in Clovis, New Mexico. Marvin worked at McDonnell Douglas as an airline mechanic for 20 years until his retirement in 1979. He also worked for Boeing Aircraft. He was a member of the New Bethel Assembly of God Church, the VFW and the Masonic Lodge in Coweta, Oklahoma. He was devoted to his wife and daughter. Survivors include one sister, Maxine Mills of Vidalia, Louisiana; two nephews, David Mills and his wife, Phil, and Gary Mills and his wife, Mary; and his special daughter, Sherry Sly of Pryor, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Frankie, his daughter, Linda, and three brothers. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 31, 2008 at New Bethel Assembly of God Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma with Rev. Don Whitby officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta. Arrangements and services are under the direction of Wright Funeral Home in Coweta.
