On the morning of November 21, 2017, Marva passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after a courageous battle with cancer. Marva was 54 years old and was surrounded by her friends and family when she passed. Marva was born on June 18th, 1963, in Joplin, Missouri; the second daughter of Martin and Patty Spears. Marva grew up in several small towns in Kansas before settling in Eureka, where she graduated high school in 1981. Marva began college at Emporia State and Wichita State before earning her degree in Speech Pathology at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. While at NSU she met Jerry "Mick" Mitchell, and they were united in marriage on August 8, 1987. Marva and Mick were married for 30 years and were blessed with three daughters: Patty, Morgan and Bailey. Her daughters were the lights of Marva's life. They were a great source of joy and comfort during her own illness and when her daughter Morgan passed away at the age of nineteen. Marva worked as a Speech Pathologist in the Coweta Public School system for nearly 20 years and then in other schools in the Tulsa metro area. She was active in the Coweta community and an enthusiastic supporter of the Coweta High School Band, in which all of her daughters performed. Marva loved to sing, work with her daughters in cheer squad and Color Guard, and support Mick at his BBQ contests. Marva held fast to her faith in the Lord, trusting Him in all things. She had a big and loving heart and will be sorely missed by all who loved her and whose lives she touched. Marva was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, John and Ava Cagle; her paternal grandparents, Daniel and Allie Spears; her parents Martin and Patty Spears; and her daughter Morgan Leigh Mitchell. Marva is survived by her husband, Jerry (Mick) Mitchell of Broken Arrow; her daughters Patty Ruth Mitchell of Tulsa and Bailey Cameryn Mitchell of Broken Arrow; and her sister Martina Spears Tatum of Wagoner. She is also survived by a large, loving family of in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Wright-Brown Funeral Home in Coweta. A viewing will be held there from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday. The funeral will take place on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Coweta Assembly of God Church with the burial immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to Make-a-Wish Oklahoma (Oklahoma.wish.org) or The Cavett Kids Foundation (www.cavettkids.org).
