Martha J. Higgins

Martha J. Higgins, age 78, longtime Coweta resident departed this life on Friday, June 21, 2019 at Hillcrest Hospital South in Tulsa, OK. Martha was born on December 7, 1940 in Vinita, OK and was the daughter of Arlin and Claudia (Elsie) Jenkins. She was a graduate of Vinita High School in Vinita, OK. After graduating high school, she attended Northeastern State University where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Education. While attending Northeastern State University she met the love of her life, Charles Leo Higgins and they were married on June 24, 1964 in Pryor, OK. She began teaching at Blue Jacket Public Schools as an elementary teacher. After a couple of years of teaching, Martha decided to stay at home and take care of her family. She loved spending time with her family and watching the television. Her family meant the world to her and she would do anything for them. Martha is survived by her husband, Charles Leo Higgins of the home in Coweta, OK; her two sons, Charles Wayne Higgins and wife Lourdes of Coweta, OK and George Allen Higgins and wife Stacey of Burlington, NC; three grandchildren, Anna Claire Higgins, Olivia Higgins and George Allen Higgins, Jr.; one niece, Judy Henson of Vinita, OK; and numerous other relatives and friends. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Arlin and Claudia Jenkins and her sister, Mary Henson. A viewing for Martha will be from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Brown Family Funeral Home and graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK with Rev.
