Coweta

Lucille “Pearline” Childress, age 81, entered into the Gates of Heaven on Wednesday morning, March 8, 2023 in Beggs, OK.  Pearline was born in Porter, OK on March 4, 1942 to Lee O. and Ova Stack.  After a few brief moves around the country, Pearline’s parents moved to Coweta where she spent the rest of her life.  Pearline attended Coweta Schools, graduating in 1960 as class valedictorian.  While living in Coweta, Pearline met and married the love of her life, Ken Childress.  The couple were married on January 31, 1959 in her parent’s home in Coweta.  Ken and Pearline shared an incredibly close and loving relationship until his death in June of 2002.  Ken and Pearline loved to visit their kids and grandkids, going for drives in the country and enjoyed hundreds of hours together on their pontoon boat, fishing, relaxing and enjoying each other’s company.

Pearline graduated with honors from Northeastern State University with a degree in Elementary Education.  She taught briefly at Catoosa Schools and spent the rest of her career teaching 1st and 3rd grade at Coweta Elementary Schools where she had the joy of teaching with her sister Mary and many friends.  Pearline absolutely loved the young children that she taught.  She often said that she would do it for no pay.  She also enjoyed playing the piano and was the piano player at First Christian Church for many years.

Pearline was the baby of the family and will be greeted in Heaven by her Mom and Dad, sisters Lawanda and Mary and brother Lee.   Pearline is survived by her son Dave Childress of Edmond, OK and his wife Denise, her daughter Donna Justus of Beggs, OK and her husband Ernie, and her “Foster son” Clayton Foster of Gainesville, TX and companion Sue.  Her grandchildren are Brandon Miles and his wife Lindsay of Grove, OK, Stephani Smotherman and her husband Joe of Coweta, OK, Dani Cook and her husband Cody of Edmond, OK and Ben Childress of Edmond, OK.  Pearline also was blessed with four incredible great grandchildren: Nolan Prevett of Coweta, OK, Penelope Miles of Grove, OK, Linkin Smotherman of Coweta, OK and Karsten Cook of Edmond, OK.  She absolutely adored her grandkids and great grandkids and loved spending time with them whenever possible.  Pearline is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.
